Day 2: Why Grow?

The name of this series isn’t “Coping with Change and Transition” or simply “Change & Transition”.  It’s Growing in the Midst of Change & Transition.

The bible speaks of growth in many places. We read in 2 Peter 3:18

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen

and in 1 Corinthians 3:7

7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.

From these two scriptures we see that God has called us to grow in both grace and the knowledge of Him and that he is the one who causes us to grow.

True spiritual growth can only happen by the Hand of our Powerful God. We cannot counterfeit growth.  You can maybe put on for a little while but true character will reveal itself.  It always does.

In 2 Peter it encourages us to grow in grace and in knowledge of Jesus.  So both growing up in the gospel – what it is and how it saturates our everyday life, and knowing who Christ is and what He has called us to.  And all of this is for His glory.

God is an amazing Teacher. ” He is a God who can cause all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes” (Romans 8:28).

All things can include change and transition.  He can take the craziness, fearful, exciting, dreaded, adventurous, mundane circumstance of change and make it fertile ground for for us to grow in the gospel and increase in knowledge and intimacy with Him.  Because He is God and He has it like that. He is powerful like that.  And most breathtaking – He loves us like that.  Every experience counts, its worth something in His eyes – it’s an opportunity to draw nearer and our Father longs for us to be nearer.  To run to Him, cast our cares on Him, love Him, hangout with Him and bring Him Glory which is such an amazing honor.

This is why we should grow. Let’s ask the Lord to cultivate this desire to grow if it is not there, and to give us the faith to Say Yes To The Journey Ahead.
